Independent Study

Hey there word detective! You are ready to tackle word study on your own. Below are some of the activity choices you have during word study. Remember you can always challenge a partner to a speed sort, blind writing sort, or even a game of concentration (memory match) with your word sorts.

Split into two groups and look over the meanings of each affix. Now cut apart the words and turn them face down. Take turns playing concentration (memory match). If you make a match you get another turn.

Working as a whole group look over the word cards and cut them apart. Follow the directions on the explanation page taking turns around the group or in pairs to build a word that matches the meaning card chose. Use the mat as a guide.
