Helpful Tips & Tools

Reading just right books (JRB) is an essential element for reading growth.  A student's JRB has just the right amount of challenge for them to practice comprehension strategies while maintaining a solid understanding of their reading.

There are many ways students are assessed in order to determine their Just Right Reading Range.  Throughout the year, you and your child should be aware of this range and the majority of independent reading happens in this range.  There are many leveling systems available, but the two main systems we use in grade five are the DRA (developmental reading assessment) levels and the Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading levels.  Below are the target ranges for the school year.
