NF Text Structure Webquest
Step 1 - Investigating and Recording (80 minutes)
Now that you know the different text structures, grab a National Geographic Magazine. Find an article to read through and using your recording sheet see what you can find. You can also use one of the digital articles as well if you would like.
Sleuths: Why did the author choose this structure? how does this structure best fit the information?
Private Eyes: What words can help signal the type of text structure used? How does this structure help the reader understand the information?
Step 2 - Checking For Understanding (10 minutes)
Now that you have investigated the different nonfiction text structures, it is time to test your knowledge. With your group, click on the quiz below, try not to use any of your research. Remember to work together to identify each article.
Step 3 - Creating Your Teaching Resource (45 minutes)
Together choose one text structure you feel you know best. Share this decision with your teacher to get approval for your final project. Once you have the okay, begin to plan out what resource you will be creating to teach third and fourth graders three important things.

How will this structure help your reader understand? How will it match your writing purpose?
